Flatchat EP 3 Classic Cars & Coffee!

Host:Ash, Charlotte, Lachlan Guests; Justin and Jason Oh yeah.

>> Welcome to Flat Chat. I'm Lachlan.

>> I'm Charlotte.

>> I'm Ash.

>> And today we are joined by two amazing guests, Justin and Jason.

>> Hi everybody.

>> I'm Dan with the amazing two.

>> Is it the little one? Justin. Big one Jason.

>> So do you want to quickly introduce yourselves? Tell us kind of what you do and what you're all about.

>> What do we do?

>> I don't know, but we seem to do it, don't we?

>> Yeah, we do a couple of little car events here and there.

>> Yes.

>> So, you guys run Cars and Coffee or Classic classic.

>> Not to get confused.

>> Classic Cars and Coffee

>> and a little bit more.

>> What else do you guys do? Uh we run uh quite a few events across the year uh mainly car related that have come from classic cars and coffee but we actually own an advertising agency and a digital marketing company

>> which has actually helped us grow these car events cuz at the end of the day we're both car nuts right

>> unfortunately

>> he likes weird cars. No

>> I don't. Yeah,

>> he likes weird cars. French cars normal cars

>> but we're both car nuts. Right. And we've somehow managed to, I guess, make our passion something that we can actually make money out of and create a community from and actually get enjoyment out of, which not many people can do.

>> Well, it kind of started as a fun passion, didn't it really? But then we're kind of like, oh, we can make money out of this.

>> Not so much Classic Cars and Coffee cuz obviously that's a charity event, but certainly the others. Yeah.

>> So, make a living out of it.

>> How did Classic Cars and Coffee start and how have you guys kind of developed that over the years? cuz we were chatting before and it's been about 10 years which is an insane achievement. So, how did it start and kind of where are you guys pushing for in the future?

>> Well, we didn't start it so we can't take a claim to that.

>> It was a couple of guys, Paul Blank um and Derek Graham who Derek Graham's still in into the into the the actual event itself,

>> but it started in 2016 as we just discovered

>> um with the Porsche Club and the Morgan Club.

>> Morgan Club. Yes. Um and then it kind of grew organically from there and moved to UWA um very quickly. Um and then we took

>> the other half share of it. What is that?

>> 5 years. 5 years. Yes.

>> Holy crap.

>> Are you feeling old yet?

>> No.

>> Years old.

>> Yeah. So Paul Blank came to Justin actually at the start and thought you guys would be the the best that he can think of to take over the event which he was quite right because I I guess we are into cars. We have that passion for cars but

>> and Paul realized it had got to a certain point where it needed to tap into a younger audience and you needed someone that had a good knowledge of marketing to be able was the big change that we brought to the event. So what probably had three or 400 cars coming to each event when we took over?

>> Yeah, probably.

>> It's now 800 to 900 cars often during the summer months.

>> Well, those that go know how full it is. Absolutely. Yesterday we filled right up at 800 cars.

>> Constantly packed and you know with the uh addition of the JDM section as well. It's just been ever growing and constantly every time that we we're down there it's overflowing constantly. So

>> yeah, it's

>> we've it's become a victim of our own You know, we're always worried about the cues and, you know, making sure people are happy and we're not turning them away.

>> Trying not to turn away genuine classic vehicles, right? But also having an understanding of modern cars that are interesting and everybody's got their own opinion, right, of what is interesting and everybody's, you know, is different.

>> So, we often get a lot of uh criticism saying, "Oh, you've let this particular car in and I couldn't get in." But the particular car let in is actually quite interesting. Yeah.

>> In reality,

>> Commodores and Falcons are probably the hardest one. Yes,

>> because you know there's so many of them they seem to multiply

>> which is why we don't allow them.

>> We don't allow them as a rule unless they're older than 988.

>> Yeah. Okay.

>> 1990 I believe now put it up. That's very original.

>> Yes.

>> So you know they're getting harder and harder to find at that age. So

>> So you can't bring your clapped out burnout car on steelies.

>> No. In mid90s are all right.

>> And then you kind of move on to the more modern ones that you know like Mustangs. We, you know, recently thought, well, maybe there's a lot of Mustangs coming and it becomes a Mustang event. So, we're kind of clamping down on that. But, of course, guys with Mustangs like mine's special. We had a Roose come in. Everyone's

>> I know they are, but it's like where do you stop? You don't want to take over the event. I mean, we even had the Porsche Club, which are a great club and we love them, but we ended up having too many of them and people were complaining saying it was a Porsche event.

>> Yeah.

>> So, you know, you try and can't please everyone, I guess.

>> Yeah.

>> Yeah. So if we can please 1% we're happy

>> going for about 90%.

>> So yeah on the

>> I haven't seen you there by the way of you lately.

>> We have the next one.

>> I really want a cinnamon scroll.

>> Cinnamon scrolls.

>> The legendary cinnamon scrolls. Yes. They often sell out.

>> Yes.

>> I'll be there.

>> They come early.

>> I think we I think we need to take all three of the XL's down. Take

>> XL are not permitted. They're not.

>> No, we will make an exception for

>> We will make an exception for the co

>> JDM section. Really?

>> Yeah.

>> Yeah. Kind of.

>> Yeah.

>> We've got a lot of things.

>> I know. We've got too many toys.

>> The Datson would happily have that.

>> Oh, awesome.

>> Yes.

>> Good.

>> In the JDM section.

>> Yeah. Okay, great. There we go.

>> I think it needs to be in the front section.

>> Yeah, right.

>> I've got a D. You could put it near my D. I think we need to put it right next to the le collection.

>> Yeah, that would go well.

>> I'm I'm sure that everyone would definitely

>> You know what? We've always said that about classic cars and coffee is we like the fact that you can have a McLaren and then a mini,

>> right? You know, that's the great thing about the

>> So, you get a guy that's got his Phantom drop head and he's talking to a PL in a Mini that's just thrown all his money into it and there's just no airs and graces, right? Yep.

>> They're just two people having a chat about a car and that's what's so good about classic cars and coffee.

>> That's what we liked it. We liked it before we were involved in it. We used to go.

>> Yeah.

>> Except for the morning thing was a problem. And it still is. Let's be honest.

>> Yeah, it is. It is when you're not a morning person.

>> Well, and people get there earlier and I'm not I'm not person. I need I need

>> Yeah, she just needs sleep. I think that's a really positive thing about classic cars and coffee that you don't see much in car culture now is people don't actually appreciate other people's kind of what their cars are and what they've done to it. Whether it's they've built it up themselves or it's completely original. It always seems to be this competition of oh my car is you know more original or my one's faster in a straight line or whatever it is compared to classic cars and coffee. It's always, you know, you exactly like you said, you can have a a McLaren center sitting there and then, you know, couple of doors down, it's just some peer who's been trying to restore up a car as best as he can. So,

>> yeah,

>> it's it's a really positive thing about the event. So,

>> yeah, and the stories that go with them, we know a lot of the people that come now

>> and you know, as you just said, they've rebuilt them or you know, the constant battle of keeping the damn things on the road, especially it's British

>> struggle at the moment. Last spare oil needs to be handy at all times.

>> Yes. And then, you know, I I think one thing we've noticed since we've taken over particularly is it's become more of a family event.

>> So, we're seeing a lot of white.

>> It's not the old white male anymore. And it very much was when we took over and car culture 10, 15 years ago was like that, right? But now we're getting families. So many women, you know, it's it's fantastic.

>> Oh, absolutely. It's call it ferrets. We get ferrets. We've had snakes to my sugar. Yeah. I've I've seen quite a lot of like pictures of dogs, but I haven't seen snakes.

>> Watch out for the snake's favorite.

>> Yeah,

>> we haven't seen a spider yet.

>> No,

>> then I'd be off.

>> Do you want to see one?

>> No.

>> Tarantula.

>> No,

>> I'm a good tarantula.

>> Putting your darts in. Don't worry.

>> Please don't.

>> Just as you're driving at home, just coming out of the the mirror.

>> Yes. Well, my grandfather used to do that with frogs. I'd go and stay at their place and you'd fold down the mirror and a bloody frog would dead.

>> Every time I left there, I might check my mirror.

>> I mean, look, that that's one way to kind of keep that memory is

>> Yeah. So, I always remember dead frog.

>> Thank you.

>> We started talking about frogs at the start, didn't we? Come back. That was a nice segue.

>> Anyway,

>> yeah. What What was the discussion? What a frog taste like chicken.

>> Chicken.

>> If in doubt, it tastes like chicken. Correct.

>> So, you know, as you guys said, you guys have done a lot of other events, but you know, you guys have also gotten behind the wheels of, you know, where motorsport people gotten the behind the wheels of some questionable cars doing some speeds that they're not designed for. So,

>> tell us about

>> Excels.

>> I think that I think that you guys should drive an XL.

>> We should. I mean, they can't be that fast.

>> They are the twin cams, right? Twin cams. Yep. We can't do the single cams.

>> I do love the fact they're used for racing, right? Because remember when they came out,

>> they were a bit of a like they were owned by a certain type of person, right? And that person used to often sit in the right lane doing about 20 l.

>> Oh, no. That was that was the fog light.

>> Yeah, the fog light.

>> The rear fog light.

>> So, it's like people would buy them, put it on accidentally, and not know how to turn it off. So you'd always be behind these XL with a fog light on, right? It was a thing.

>> And now they're being raced. You don't see them on the road anymore. They're just on the racetrack. I think it's hilarious.

>> Yeah. It's been a while since I've seen one on the road cuz they whole series. Everyone buying them out, right?

>> It actually on the road anymore. Perfect.

>> They're the most reliable things ever.

>> Can you do that MG series where we get all these new MGs off the road? I think that that I think that would do that they really need to get off the

>> Chinese ones.

>> Yes.

>> Yeah. Get them off the road

>> because the other ones they just get off the road anyway

>> and I own one so I can say that.

>> Well, yes. Yours is a bit more of a modern one but

>> So you guys do a lot for charity as well which is really really great. You know you guys are involved with Rotary as well. So what kind of events do you do? cuz I know that one of the ways that we initially met you guys was through the Bulldust and Back. So,

>> you know, obviously that's changed a bit. So, where is that moving forwards?

>> So, Bulldust and Back uh is a 4-day charity event um that was run by Rotary.

>> Uh Rotary is a fantastic organization. I'm a Rotarian. However, they're a little bit riskaverse. So, the particular club that was running that particular charity event decided it was too risky for them and there wasn't enough will to run it. We thought the event was so great. We met so many amazing people. Um, and we wanted to evolve it and keep the event going. So, we created the name off track with a Q.

>> So, if you check out

>> marketing marketing genius, right?

>> So, q.com.au and it's the same ethos, a 4-day charity event.

>> Um, we raised money last year for kids cancer support group. So, it's always going to be revolving around basically raising money for charities that genuinely deserve it and don't get a lot of government support.

>> Y

>> um all the money raised goes to the charity. So, admin costs we bear as as uh I guess

>> participants

>> participants.

>> Yep.

>> Um so, yeah, we do that. Um we've sort of partnered with the event to do all the marketing and things like that.

>> I've got a car sitting at Hide Park as we speak to promote it.

>> Yeah. um which we had about seven or eight people quite interested over the last couple of days. Yeah. Yeah. Which is really good.

>> And including you guys and the Beetle hopefully this year.

>> It does still go.

>> Really?

>> I'd daily drive it.

>> Wow.

>> Um still with the roof rack and the spare tire even though the spare tire doesn't actually fit cuz it's too small.

>> Drive the bash plate is off. It's safely stored to make sure that it doesn't there's a white Citroen C4 VTS sitting somewhere

>> somewhere in this room.

>> Perfect.

>> Rally. I have I have a bash plate.

>> Actually, I've got a spare bash plate.

>> Yes.

>> Yes. Actually, I need a new car.

>> And that's one of the good things about that rally as well is we try and encourage the weird, the wonderful. We don't want people coming on with modern cars and full drives and things. Jason did it in a um smart car. Yeah,

>> I've done it in a Citroen 2CV

>> from 1977. I've done it in a SA convertible. I try and find the most impractical cars I can possibly do it in.

>> I think it was the first year in the SA. My whole thing was keep the roof down and I did it with my wife myself.

>> Were you there that year?

>> I was there for the um for the Citroen, the soft top Citroen, the old red one. Yes.

>> That we were Yeah, the 2CB when we were behind you. Yeah,

>> I reckon I could drive the Beetle this year. Chuck some L plates on it.

>> You want to take the Beetle offroad?

>> You should. Why would we?

>> I think that's a good idea.

>> I think we should also take Charlotte's Mazda.

>> That Mazda is an absolute weapon. It's just a Mazda 3.

>> Three.

>> 2015.

>> I thought it was 10.

>> 2010. Um, that thing goes

>> the the automatic version. Absolutely terrible.

>> No, no, no. As soon as you put a manual box in it. It's It's perfect.

>> Yeah. Yeah. No, they're a great car.

>> That's every car really.

>> Well, as soon as you put a manual in it,

>> Yeah. sadly, they're all disappearing.

>> Yeah, they are. Sadly.

>> And the ability to drive a manual.

>> It's the best way to not get your car stolen anymore.

>> Manual electric cars. So, that's around the corner. That'll be very interesting how that goes cuz you'll be changing gears, but you can't store it.

>> Yep.

>> So, that's weird.

>> Really?

>> Yeah.

>> Perfect. So, Toyota is working on it. Ford's just patented their version,

>> so they reckon it's it's months away.

>> I can't see the point though.

>> Yeah, I know. But it's

>> it gives you the feeling. So you

>> just get an IC

>> just drive

>> like a normal car.

>> Yeah, I know. But it's

>> We all have electric cars, but you've got to have a an IC car as well.

>> I think it's kind of the same as having um you know the speakers on the back to make exhaust noises. Like it's

>> you can you can kind of see where they're going. Sound pretty cool. I have to admit like the Porsche tan

>> sounds awesome even the SQ5 I drove that the diesel.

>> Yeah.

>> Fast as sounded so good I almost got full.

>> Oh

>> I didn't buy it.

>> It was pretty good though.

>> So you guys have had quite a few cars in in your life. So we had I've had 146. So I've got a list now.

>> You've got what?

>> 146 cars.

>> I don't think I've got that. Oh my god.

>> Yeah.

>> You've got that many or you've had

>> it's eight at the moment and that's a bit of a problem because I'm running out of space.

>> So, out of all of the cars that you've owned, what would you say are your top? Let's go top five.

>> You got to go top one. Have you still got your top one? Is that

>> Yeah. No. Mine would be Peugeot 205 GTI.

>> Oh, yeah. Okay.

>> Citroen DS.

>> Mhm.

>> Lotus Elise. The supercharged one.

>> Yes. my Renault Sport R26, man R26,

>> which I've just bought one.

>> Having some issues getting it licensed anyway.

>> Surprise.

>> No, it was highly modified demodified to go back to original. So, we tried to get it over the pits and we couldn't.

>> That's a whole other story.

>> And uh Citroen TCV definitely cuz they just

>> It's got to be that.

>> Yeah,

>> that's got to it's got to be your best.

>> Yep.

>> That silly little convertible.

>> It's the most ridiculous car. It's slow. It's impractical. You can't wind the windows down.

>> If I have an accident, I'm dead.

>> It's horrible.

>> It's just But it's so fun.

>> It's so fun. Yeah. Yeah.

>> It's the unlikely car. It's like me. My favorite car that I will never sell is my 1952 Land Rover.

>> It is slow. It wanders all over the road. It makes oil everywhere. There is nothing good about it.

>> It's British is what he's trying to say.

>> But beyond that,

>> but I just love it. It talks to me.

>> Yeah.

>> While I'm even sitting there at the light, it's stalling. It's just It's hideous. It's absolutely It's the worst. Most people can't even drive it.

>> But they are cool.

>> They are cool.

>> They will always

>> No synchro

>> pedals come out the floor. There's no power brakes. They barely stop.

>> Can't think of anything good about it.

>> It's good.

>> The key word is it barely stops cuz it still does stop.

>> That's the important thing.

>> Yeah, it does stop slowly. Slowly.

>> What do you need break?

>> Well, it doesn't go fast enough. It kind of pings at about 75.

>> Oh my god. That sounds like it's going to blow up.

>> Just take it off the accelerator. Oh, stop.

>> But you know what? That thing is 70 what? 5 years or something old.

>> Yeah.

>> And it's it's never been restored.

>> That's the same age as you. Right.

>> Somewhat older. Um it always goes. You go out there, you press the starter button. Yeah. It's very modern.

>> It always goes and it always moves.

>> Really

>> moves.

>> It doesn't go.

>> It It labels. is the what's the zero to 100 time on that? Is that a couple

>> go to 100?

>> I wouldn't even do that on a 27 minute straight. You're constantly doing this.

>> Constantly.

>> It's really bad.

>> You need to have a turn.

>> I think that's a good idea that around the tracker, you know.

>> Yeah, it's a great car.

>> You'll be wanting it back in that exo quicker than you can say boo.

>> Yeah. Yeah. So, that's my absolute favorite car and I'll never sell that.

>> And probably another one of my favorite cars was the other end of the scar. I had an Aston Martin Vantage.

>> Not the best car in any way. It wasn't the fastest car. It wasn't the most comfortable,

>> but boy, it sounded good. And you had this sense of arriving in that car.

>> It was just a really nice car.

>> You had a feeling of importance.

>> He would drive along like this,

>> constantly revving cuz it did sound good.

>> You're you're one of those people. I mean, I can't You're not rebing.

>> Can I tell you a story? I'll put him in I'll get him in trouble. Absolutely.

>> So, one day we were with a mutual friend. Um,

>> here we go.

>> And we're at the a pub in Mount Hawthor.

>> Oh, no. That wasn't that car.

>> He had a Maserati Gran Turismo, right? And he drives past and he's doing that whole thing.

>> I wasn't.

>> So, we're both looking and going, "Look at this guy."

>> But that car at that time, the car was straight piped because Do you think I could get that V8 to sound good? I changed everything on it and then I straight piped it everywhere you went. was rattling. of a car. I would never buy one.

>> She never broke down and it was a great car as far as that goes, but it was so big, so slow, so loud.

>> Okay.

>> It was obnoxious. So, don't buy a Maserati. In fact, he'll tell you that cuz he just kept

>> I just sold one. Yeah.

>> Cuz no end to grief.

>> A lot of lot of issues.

>> I did a rear diff.

>> Oh,

>> burnouts.

>> No.

>> Yeah. Not quite the quality of the German car, but probably more exciting. Yeah.

>> Okay. So, your digital company,

>> Interact Digital,

>> how did that all

>> come come to where it is now?

>> Well, literally around the corner.

>> It was around the corner. It um I worked for the company for 10 years. So, I came from the media side. So, 7 West Media, and I kind of moved over to the dark side

>> and um I ran it for them. And then the guys were getting really quite old

>> that owned it. So we thought, why don't we buy it? Who will I buy it with?

>> Somehow I knew this guy. He was working for another media agency at the time. I said, "Oh, you're interested."

>> So we thought, "Oh, let's do it." So we did. So we changed the name. It was called Top Express at the time. We used to do a lot of press ads.

>> Yeah. Okay.

>> Actually, worst time possible. We bought it.

>> Absolute worst time. However, we used to do all those years about 80 90% of all the motoring. So I knew all the car dealers.

>> Yep. Y

>> perfect for me. I loved it. I just everything cars. So yeah, then we took over and then we created the digital agency and of course everything kind of moved digitally. This was in 2015. Um so we we rebranded um and we still kept a normal media agency which is Media Junction. So we book and sell media and you know like radio and print and TV ads. Yep.

>> And then we moved very much into digital and then suddenly we moved into doing TV production and we produced a TV show.

>> Really? Yeah, we'll give anything a Yeah, we just kind of kept evolving. So, we did what was that show called? Ready for adventure on channel 9

>> and caravan camping.

>> Caravan and Camping Wii on channel 7.

>> And this is two people who would never ever be seen dead in a caravan, right?

>> Oh No.

>> We kept coming back to this whole like fall driving and caravanning world and we're like we are so never

>> I'm a hotel kind of guy, right?

>> We end up cameo appearancing on that show.

>> Okay.

>> So that that was good. And then um we converted the ready for adventure to an actual expo show. So that's now an event that you guys come to

>> which will be there this year.

>> We will be back.

>> Yes.

>> So yeah, somehow we kind of moved into events and of course that co coincided with classic cars and coffee and then the other events that we spun off from that like your festival speed that you guys went to as well and participated in.

>> Classic car show coming up.

>> Classic car show. Super Sunday. Supercar Sunday. Yep.

>> And now Super Swan event. So

>> we've just done those little events. don't like sleeping in Sundays. Really, who does concept?

>> Who who ever thought of having free Sundays? I mean, I hate it.

>> We did work out that we actually work like 20 Sundays a year.

>> I know.

>> When you add it all up, it's actually quite

>> But it's actually like you go there and I hate getting up and going, but you know, you get there and it's actually we enjoy it cuz we've got such a great team of volunteers. They're all such car nuts and they all they all love it as much as we do. I don't think any of them like getting up either.

>> We call it our tribe.

>> Yeah. But we all enjoy each other's company and we all enjoy the guys that come.

>> And if there are any knobs, we kind of ban them, don't we?

>> We do have the odd knob.

>> Usually V8 C63s,

>> Mustangs,

>> which I was a

>> So we name and shame them on social media. So we have a

>> name and shame.

>> It's actually become an event in itself at classic house and coffee. The exiting shows all around the world.

>> Yeah. It started 2 or 3 years ago and it was like five five or 10 teenagers would be there and now it's hundreds, right? So many. So we just have someone there in a yellow vest doing the whole

>> All you have to do is make eye contact, right?

>> And it's not as though we don't want them to rev but we'll get banned.

>> Yeah. It's like rev by all means, but don't break traction. So we got this whole thing about don't break.

>> We try and do the right thing.

>> We don't get banned.

>> Apart from the fact you've literally got 12-year-old kids standing on the road, right?

>> That too.

>> Yeah. So

>> people that clearly can't drive their C63.

>> No.

>> Which is 99.9% of them.

>> It is quite a lot of them, isn't it? Yeah.

>> And and Mustangs as well. They seem to 100%. There might be one person that that can drive one, but other than that, absolutely no.

>> Yes, you're probably right.

>> Sorry to all Mustang fans out there, you know, sort of they look cool.

>> If you're a Mustang fan ones,

>> sorry, that's true. The old Mustangs.

>> Oh, yeah. Yeah. Old Mustangs are beautiful, but we got 10 to 20 of those at every classic cars event.

>> It always seems to be the newer like GT.

>> Well, you know what? Cuz that's the SS Commodore crew have moved on. The FPV guys need to buy something like that that they bought before. So, they've moved on to Must

>> and if they're not getting that, they're getting the Land Cruiser with the exhaust.

>> Really loud.

>> Yeah.

>> Or the Ford Ranger.

>> The Ford Ranger seems to be the one that they

>> Ford Danger. Oh god.

>> Just take the R off. Anger.

>> Anger.

>> The funny thing about Interact Digital was actually you guys were my first sponsor at the 20. Yeah. Ever. The

>> 20.

>> Are we still on the car?

>> Yes.

>> Have not moved. Why did you Why did you do that? cuz that support for me being a young 14-year-old female driver just entering the sport, it was really really good to have someone there like supporting and being able to be there.

>> We've always supported your family because you know your dad's

>> we we met your dad obviously through that event,

>> you know what they call off track,

>> but you know you guys have always been

>> what I would say is I guess something new and fresh.

>> You give it a crack.

>> Yeah. anyone who gives it a break

>> about kids of this era and and as a family. I've never met a family as close as you guys.

>> Look, you're all in it. You're all race. You all race together. You don't fight. It's weird.

>> Here we go.

>> I've never seen that before.

>> I think you need to come to one of the races and see the girls. behind the scenes, but like you know,

>> you need to be in the garage with us when the girls come in and start throwing helmets at each other for why did you why did you die on me?

>> You're the worst. Lan's like, "Everybody say I drive cars." And they're actually yelling at Lan because her car's not done and my car's broken. So, it's just sitting there in the middle of nowhere.

>> So, who chucks the tanty? Who's the feistiest?

>> I think it's Chuck a Tandy. I would say that I'm not

>> Do you like to express your feelings?

>> Yes.

>> Yeah, I do. In a not very screaming.

>> She She's a communicator.

>> I see.

>> Are you the spoiled one in the family?

>> No, she was the youngest for a while. She's definitely still got your middle child syndrome.

>> That's what it is. I wouldn't say that I'm spoiled, but I would say I put make sure that my opinion is out there and that everyone knows

>> everyone everyone at the track knows my opinion.

>> That's good. Everyone knows where they stand.

>> Good.

>> No one.

>> It's called being forthright.

>> They say that honesty is the best policy. Ashley is very honest.

>> Yes.

>> Unless you're a politician.

>> Oh,

>> I don't care. I don't think anyone does at this point.

>> I like a few politicians, but other than that,

>> no.

>> I like Caitlyn Collins.

>> She's nice.

>> Caitlyn Collins has been has been

>> what do I

>> Yeah. Who is Caitlyn?

>> Caitlyn Collins is the MLA for um Hillary's and she's our local representative.

>> Right. Okay.

>> And she supported you guys.

>> Well, we got her in the car and she didn't yell and scream and ask. She actually asked. She loved it and asked for more hotlaps. So,

>> you know, if anyone can get through Ashley's into motorsport, right?

>> Y

>> she's very supportive. She does a lot for our community as well, which is really good.

>> I hear the mayor of Big Park, she's right into motorsport. on the wh on the topic of politics politics.

>> Oh man, I just want to talk about it.

>> I I wouldn't say I'm mean.

>> I would say you're I would say you're very passionate about your racing and you just want people to know that you're not happy with some the way

>> in general. Yeah.

>> So, just

>> if you're if you're doing something you're doing something that annoys me, I would tell you you're doing something that's annoying

>> in a really mean way.

>> So, who's the best on the track out of you three?

>> It's got to be Locky cuz he's been doing it longer, right?

>> Yeah. Yes. That is the reasoning why he's cuz he's been doing it longer.

>> Oh, he needs some sort of handicap situation.

>> Yes, you do. 100%.

>> Well, I think we did consider that at one point that I should drive around one-handed.

>> I think all the XL drives except for SH and I should drive around with one hand.

>> Well, you can drive with two. Everyone else drive with one.

>> I think we need to do a reverse.

>> Three wheels.

>> Yeah.

>> You see it? Three wheels. I think they should all drive with three wheels.

>> I think half the time we already only drive on two wheels. Two or three wheels.

>> Well, then make it one.

>> Just at that point, we'll just do wheelies on a motorbike.

>> Yeah. Actually, we'll just ride bikes around whilst you guys can drive the actual

>> XL. Ride a bike.

>> You don't like driving the XL?

>> How about everyone else track? I'll do short track.

>> You'll lose momentum in that.

>> So, can we maybe throw it back to you guys? What are your top five cars?

>> Oh, actually,

>> not necessarily that you've owned, but you want to own, right?

>> Yeah. What do you want to own?

>> Oh, when you actually get some money.

>> Um,

>> not saying you don't have any money. I'm trying to

>> No goes into the budget, right?

>> Uh-huh.

>> Although we're not spending a million. We're spending like a couple hundred grand.

>> So, no Veyrons, no nothing. Ridiculous. Okay. I've got a thing on my list.

>> Let's have a $500,000 limit, right?

>> Brand new.

>> $500,000 will only just buy you a good XL motor. So,

>> got to that point. without modifications.

>> That's with questionable legality,

>> right?

>> But Ashley,

>> why am I starting?

>> Because you

>> You're the most opinionated.

>> Um

>> Oh, I don't know. I've been trying to convince P to sell me his Ranger.

>> Oh,

>> what? You choose a Ranger

>> as my first car.

>> Oh my god, she's a bo kicker out of cars and

>> you're not coming with your Ranger. No,

>> we've given you What did we say? 200,000.

>> What about a Kia Tasman? They're beautiful.

>> Oh, yeah.

>> Oh, not a Kia.

>> You can only have one of them in black.

>> Very black.

>> Cuz it's a Kia.

>> Yeah. It's just

>> So, that's your choice. A Ranger. Seriously.

>> No. No. That's not No.

>> Okay.

>> One of.

>> Obviously not. She's got four. She's got four to go. She can redeem us. Four to go. Okay, your turn. We're going to go in. But I don't

>> I want I want the Datson. That's mine.

>> You want the Datson?

>> Yep. It's It's

>> as in your dad's Datson.

>> Yeah. It's being written in the wheel. Um not yet, but like it will be.

>> Watch your back.

>> Oh, I'm glad you're choosing a classic instead of a new car.

>> Yes. Very good.

>> What did you choose? The Datson.

>> Oh, that's cheating.

>> No.

>> That's cheating.

>> Okay. That's Yeah, she's me.

>> Um,

>> Charlotte, what about you? What's your

>> Porsche 911? I want one of them.

>> Good choice.

>> You stole mine.

>> We were thinking about it yesterday.

>> Cuz you got granddad spec, you got GT3 money for a turbo.

>> Yeah, I do.

>> Oh, can you get a GT3 RS for 500? You probably

>> You're going to get the PAVO pack.

>> Embarrassing, but you can have that.

>> Embarrassing.

>> You can have a Boxster. 911 SCO or something.

>> Yeah, then it works. So, there you go. It works. Yeah, we go with that. Um, any particular color?

>> Pink.

>> Pink.

>> I don't know why.

>> Pink.

>> What was your face like that? Pink? Really?

>> You look ridiculous, but that's okay.

>> Pink.

>> Um,

>> I don't know.

>> Do you know Five Cars?

>> Oh, maybe she doesn't.

>> Oh, maybe this is not nice.

>> Okay, can we move on?

>> Let's move on.

>> Think Charlotte, what about you? What's your top five?

>> I love my Mazda 3.

>> Oh god.

>> You've got $200,000 and you want a Mazda 3.

>> $500,000.

>> Emotional attachment to that car.

>> Very good.

>> Point being, you wanted a Ranger.

>> A bit of context.

>> Better than Mazda 3.

>> Charlotte had an automatic Mazda 3 which she then had an unfortunate incident with

>> just a money. Just a minor incident which paved the front end.

>> They call that an accident. I think so. Just just a slight incident.

>> Incident.

>> Um and then so she then bought a manual one

>> to fix it

>> to fix it.

>> Good choice.

>> And then

>> I'm driving that until the reg runs out.

>> And then we're going to fix

>> You're not going to register it. She has a sentimental attachment to the old the the actual body of the other one for some reason.

>> Oh my god.

>> One thing I learned a long time ago is never to get sentimentally attached to a car cuz it's a lot of money.

>> Yeah.

>> Worth it.

>> Yeah.

>> What's the rest of your top five, Charlotte?

>> Um, Porsche 911 with Ashley, but I don't want it in a pink. I want it in like a like a

>> What about a black plum color?

>> Oh, nice. Nice.

>> Really nice to that. Yeah. Pink. Gross. Pink

>> class.

>> You got none of them.

>> Pink only works on one car and it's a Cadillac Elorado. Right. That's true. That's it. Yeah, you're right.

>> That's the only

>> I've never seen another car pink.

>> I'll retract my pink.

>> Just say that. You I'm the mean one.

>> Mhm.

>> Now, salmon. That

>> Yeah, I was going to say,

>> says the color blind guy.

>> You could have a pink F bambino. I think that was the old one. The old Fiat. I would have

>> Yeah.

>> You know the old Fiat Bambos. You know,

>> your head would be like before our way before our time.

>> Before our time, are they?

>> They're not your

>> They are old, but they are very cute. Are they?

>> Oh, yes.

>> We had one yesterday at Classic Cars and Coffee, which was a It wasn't pink, but it was a

>> red color. I'm color blind. It was a red. It was a light red.

>> Yep.

>> I don't know what that

>> I'm pretty sure light red is pink, isn't it?

>> Yes. No, sort of in between in between pink and red. What's that?

>> Well, how would you know? You've color.

>> Yeah, I know. But I could tell almost with an orangey tinge.

>> Oh, so it wasn't, you know, a completely different orange.

>> Car that was. We're so sorry.

>> Yeah. Please, please let us know what color.

>> Check out Classic Cars and Coffee Facebook page. There was a photo up that went yesterday.

>> If anyone wants to fat check it and let us know in the comments, by all means. Yeah. Chuck it in the comments if you're color blind or if you're not color blind. What color was it?

>> It will have a name.

>> Yep.

>> Lock. Here you go.

>> Yeah. Come on, Locky.

>> Oh, I feel like we've gotten a top one, a top two cars.

>> I'm happy with my choices.

>> Okay.

>> She's getting five 91.

>> Um,

>> remember, it doesn't have to be new.

>> Yes,

>> it could be a classic.

>> Yes. Um, I do love a good 240Z.

>> Oh, I thought you were going to say Volvo 240.

>> Oh my god. Sorry. bulletproof.

>> Who doesn't love a brick?

>> There was a nice one at Classic and Coffee yesterday. Did you?

>> Oh, yes. Yes. There are a few actually.

>> Similar to a Volvo 240, an old Subaru um Leon or Leon the old wagon cuz the the um the dash has because it's um four-wheel drive, it had a um uh like a gyro thing in the front that shows you how much you're tilting. And as soon as I saw that, I wanted to get one for

>> They're all gone though, aren't

>> they? You want to get a car for a dash

>> the tilto had it. The the 4Runner had it of that era.

>> I saw one for sale before one of the um before one of the bulldo. And so I was like, "Dad can drive the Beetle and I'll drive this and we'll get it all set up. So then that'll tow the Beetle out if it gets bogged again."

>> Um but slow though.

>> I know. So,

>> if you got the RS of that model, they came out with a turbo.

>> They came out with a turbo version.

>> Yeah. Predecessor to the WRX. Really?

>> Really?

>> Yeah.

>> And they're all gone. I haven't The Liberty RX.

>> In fact, there's one right behind us there.

>> And they had the pillarless um

>> doors as well, which was pretty cool at the time. Many cars had that.

>> Yeah.

>> So,

>> so the only cars that had that at the time were really high-end sports cars, right? Not Japanese run-of-the-mill

>> Yeah.

>> sedans. Yeah.

>> Pieces of junk. Um, a Fiat Panda.

>> What?

>> Why would you want a Fiat? Have you driven a Fiat Panda?

>> No. And I'd love to love to drive one. They're so small and awesome. How can I not?

>> They're not awesome. They're small, but they're not awesome.

>> They have a cult following. They don't

>> You mean the four-wheel drive one?

>> Yes.

>> Yeah, the four-wheel drive one. I could see the sense in that. Yeah, they're all right.

>> And they're worth like 30,000 euro now.

>> They're worth a fortune. Yeah.

>> Yeah.

>> Um a uh I was thinking of it before cuz my original like my ultimate dream car which is well out of the budget is the old Ferrari 250 GTO.

>> The old race car back one.

>> That's way inside the price range.

>> Sorry. Okay. I'll just get a bunch of

>> I think we're what 2 and a half mil on 3 mil I think. Um, a I would love to

>> kept breaking down.

>> Ah, the cars

>> a FC RX7.

>> Oh, I'm a big fan.

>> I've had one of them, too.

>> I've never had a rotary and it's still sitting in the shed.

>> You've got a rotary?

>> I have a rotary.

>> What is it? What's

>> an RX8?

>> Oh, yeah.

>> Sorry about that.

>> I know. It's really unfortunate.

>> Have you driven it?

>> I did drive it. I drove it twice before it blew up.

>> Do you have lots of oil? There's zero torque. Like there's just none.

>> It It wasn't. However, it was the It was the automatic, which was kind of boring. However,

>> paddle shifters,

>> which hold on, just 17y old 17-year-old me after I had just sold my piece of junk Lancer, then jumping into this car that all of a sudden had flappy paddles. I mean,

>> oh, you probably thought it was magic.

>> I thought it was the the greatest thing ever until it blew up. And then I downgraded to a Beetle.

>> You blew it up.

>> Yes.

>> He seems to blow up a lot of cars.

>> Did you downgrade or upgrade to a Beetle?

>> Look, when it didn't have a roof rack, it was a downgrade. And then as soon as it had a roof rack, it was an upgrade.

>> Can't believe you bought an automatic RX8.

>> It was okay.

>> Okay.

>> Sorry. The RX7 and then you'll be very happy.

>> Did any of them hit 100,000 km?

>> Generally not.

>> No. No, they did. They actually had about five rebuilds,

>> right?

>> Well, or you had you had to have the right owner.

>> Yes.

>> If you topped it up with oil,

>> can you put oil in the fuel?

>> They seem to be okay and you rev the crap out of them.

>> Yes. You can't you can't grab my driver.

>> Yep.

>> Um, so if you want an RX8, message me cuz that is

>> going on Facebook Marketplace.

>> Just give me an offer at this point.

>> Yeah, they're not interested. Um, and I would love a the Beetle, but to do it up properly, like a full full lift kit, a proper light bar instead of just zip tying it onto the roof rack.

>> Yep.

>> Yep.

>> That's what I want to do. I want to get a 451 Smart cuz you know how I had the Smart for the Off track, it was bulldust back at the time.

>> That thing was so cool. I loved it. You know, you saw how good it was offroad. It was was magic. And that was the stock one. So this it was stock. Yeah. There was nothing.

>> So yeah, people put Suzuki Hayabusa engines in those, don't they?

>> No, but another one.

>> Oh my god, that's insane.

>> Yeah, it is insane. Yeah.

>> Another one. Lift kit. You can get a 3-in lift kit for them and put the big off. Yeah, you can put the flares on them.

>> Oh my god.

>> And they kind of sit out the side. They're like a mini truck.

>> God.

>> So that I want to do exactly what you're talking about with a smart

>> convertible. Yeah, of course. cuz you know would you be smiling the exact same as when you're driving the

>> This is like the wiggles going to a rave, right?

>> Yeah.

>> We should take the crossfire down to Cars and Coffee.

>> I think we need to do that.

>> I think we took it. We took it down the line.

>> That just popped into my

>> Does that still go?

>> It does.

>> Yeah.

>> Wow.

>> It's great.

>> I'm surprised.

>> Hey, it's actually it's a Mercedes.

>> So, it is it's an SLK.

>> Yes,

>> I've got an SLK.

>> Twin pocket.

>> That's right. That's one we call Jason's hairdresser's car.

>> It's that will kill you. A 5 and a half liter V8 model car. She's good.

>> He charges a lot for haircuts.

>> Very expensive haircuts.

>> Very expensive haircuts.

>> Perfect.

>> Anything else, girls?

>> Good.

>> You haven't thought of your car yet?

>> No.

>> There's not much going on up here.

>> No. Was she driving? She loved a Mazda 3 automatic.

>> When we're when not starting good.

>> Oh no. What's What's the car that James Bond drives

>> different Martin DB4?

>> That's on my list to buy.

>> The DB4.

>> Yeah, the DB4 millions again. We've gone out of our price range. So now

>> Oh, now we're out of 500.

>> Oh yeah. Who needs a price range?

>> Yeah.

>> Buy Oh, okay.

>> Yeah, you you need a price.

>> You can't buy every car.

>> Yeah, I can.

>> Okay.

>> She wants to buy everything.

>> Every single rich.

>> That's great. Walk around dealerships and be like, I want that one, that one, that one.

>> If money with no object for me to be a Talbert Lago tear drop.

>> Really?

>> Yeah. Absolutely. Yeah. Oh,

>> there's only like three or four in the world and they're worth 20 30 million bucks or something. But um

>> uh Ralph Lauren's got one and it's just amazing. Peak 1930s coupe, right?

>> Interesting.

>> What about you? If you're out of your price range,

>> out of my price range, if I'm peeping in my price range,

>> no no limit to how much?

>> Well, it would probably be

>> actually I don't know. It's a It's a tough decision. I don't know. It's not It's not really something that you What about think of?

>> No.

>> No. It would be a smart car. No.

>> What's better than that?

>> Smart car.

>> Uh, no. I'd actually I I would probably stick within the million mark. I'd kind of keep it down there and I'd get a whole plethora.

>> Yes.

>> Yeah.

>> And I would get older ones as well. I wouldn't get new.

>> Yep. I can there's something about some nice new I definitely get an Aston Martin again, another V8 Vantage. I just love those and I think they're really quite cheap for what you get in them because they're a Mercedes underneath. So, you know, they're a lot better than they used to be with the old Volvo that I had. But

>> hey, Volvos are bulletproof.

>> The one I had was bulletproof.

>> Yeah. It never had any issues, mind you. Only done a few KS

>> but um yeah, I I I just get one from every mark to be honest so that I've got everything.

>> Yep.

>> Yeah. Nice little collection,

>> including a whole array of Land Rovers.

>> Okay.

>> I'd like a series two.

>> You want a series one? You want

>> a series can actually do

>> Land Cruisers? I like the very first Land Cruisers.

>> The The old old

>> Yeah, they are cool.

>> They are.

>> They're probably a little bit more reliable than a Land Rover.

>> Not just a bit.

>> Don't mention the war.

>> We're not We're not talking about that.

>> Oh, which one? Um,

>> oh yeah,

>> perfect. Well, thank you so much for joining us, Justin and Jason. Is there anything else that you would like to end off with?

>> We're going out with a bang, are we?

>> Yeah.

>> It'd be just nice to, I guess, say thanks to those that come to Classic Cars and Coffee. Um, obviously we we probably didn't touch on it much is it is the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia that is the main benefactor of that event.

>> Yeah. Perfect. Um, and I guess as we've grown it, they've certainly benefited from that. I think we've now it's $300,000 plus since the event started that's gone back to them and and prostate cancer research which is um it's great just to be able to give back to the community but also create this amazing tribe we call it.

>> Yep.

>> So,

>> so if you have a free Sunday and you want to go down to Cars and Coffee, when is the next one?

>> Uh, generally the first Sunday of the month. However, next month it is April the 12th because of Easter.

>> So, April 12th, we hope to see you all there.

>> We will be there.

>> We will be there. Oh, you will be there. We'll bring

>> We will reserve a spot for you.

>> We We'll have a little, you know, little corn off to the side, the the depressing little corner.

>> Cinnamon scrolls down the right next roll.

>> Yeah. Awesome. So, yeah, April 12th, we'll see you at Classic Cars and Coffee. Thank you so much for coming on and thanks.

>> Thank you for tuning in. Pleasure. always.

>> See you.

>> Why are you waving?

>> Why not?
